Experience the joy of the good news from a Jewish sage in Galilee called Jesus. Study the texts which Matthew, Mark and Luke composed about him. For the first semester (SS 201) you will learn about the cultures and traditions out of which these gospels were composed; understand the so-called synoptic problem; and engage in the different passages in Mark and Matthew on Jesus’ life, on what he preached and practiced in Galilee, and on his passion, death and resurrection.

Final Exam in Synoptics I: Puncta Pro Examinatione

For the exegetical essay, prepare to present and comment on a (one only) particular pericope from the list of passages reported in class. You can also work on your own pericope report. The format should be:
I. Synopsis of the Text or Narrative (this is a summary in your own words)
II. Literary structure and features
III. Comments on some difficult words or phrases
IV. Interpretation
V. Very short personal reflection.
For Part I: Short Answer (Explain and elaborate in specific number of lines).

1. Why did Jesus prohibit the Twelve in going to the towns of the Gentiles and Samaritans? (Matt 10:5).
